In celebration of the 33rd anniversary of Arizona’s original American Viticulture Area (AVA), Kief-Joshua Vineyards will be hosting the Fifth Annual Southeast Arizona Wine Growers Festival, featuring 20 Arizona Wineries in one location, on April 22nd and 23rd, 2017, from 11 am to 5 pm at Kief-Joshua, 370 Elgin Road, Elgin, AZ 85611. “We are once again bringing together winemakers from all across Arizona,” states winemaker and host Kief Manning. “This year we want to celebrate that on October 26, 1984 the Sonoita/Elgin Wine Growing Region was granted AVA status, making it one of oldest federal government granted viticulture areas in the United States.”

The two-day event includes new wine releases, 20 Top Arizona Wineries or acclaimed winemakers, award-winning wine, gourmet food, a professional two-day chili cook-off and hot salsa contest and live music.The Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) will host a regional two-day professional Chili cook-off. Cooks from as far as Texas will be competing for a spot in the national challenge. Guests can purchase tastes of the chili and join in the People's Choice competition, with proceeds benefitting Rotary.

CHILI COOK-OFF And Salsa Challenge

The Chili Appreciation Society (CASI) will host a regional two-day professional Chili cook-off. Cooks from as far as Texas will be competing for a spot in the national challenge. Guests can purchase tastes of the chili and join in the People's Choice competition, with proceeds benefitting Mountain Empire Rotary Club.

The People's Choice Chili contest will be on Saturday at 1 pm and the Salsa Challenge will be held on Sunday.  The professional chili cookoff, where contestants earn points for nationals and must stictly follow the professional chili cooking rules, will be held on both days.  For information on joining the chili cooks, please contact Sunny Fichtl <sunnyf@cox.net>

The tasting room at Kief-Joshua Vineyards is open seven days a week and is located at 370 Elgin Road, Elgin, AZ. The Sonoita Wine Trail is Arizona’s original and oldest wine-growing region. The festival is a perfect and affordable event for the entire family.

From Phoenix or Tucson: From Highway 10, take exit #281-- Rte 83 to Sonoita. Stay on 83 until you come to Elgin Road (mile marker 28) and turn left. Kief-Joshua Vineyards will be 3.7 miles on your left.

From Sierra Vista: I 90 to Rte 82 West, turn left on Upper Elgin Rd., the winery is 1 mile past the bridge on the right.
